First, tackle smells at the source by keeping things clean. Make vacuuming a weekly habit or pick up a robot vacuum to keep pet hair (a major source of smell that you might not even notice) under control. If your home has a mix of carpet and hard flooring, try this vacuum/mopping combination to keep things spotless.
Smells cling to fabrics, so the next step is keeping them fresh. Invest in slipcovers for your sofa cushions (here are some that come in multiple, flexible shapes, sizes and colors that blend in without looking like they belong in your grandma's house). Be sure to regularly wash them - plus your blankets, pillowcases, sheets and towels - at least once every two weeks. Fragrance beads help keep things fresh between washes, and so does this pet hair brush and these dryer sheets specifically aimed at pet hair control.
Spritz fabrics that can't be washed (like your sofa and padded chairs) with a zero-perfume odor eliminator, like this one. For super strong scents, try this (it leaves a light, clean scent and is particularly great for deodorizing smelly sports equipment and thrift store finds).
If you're a candle person, keep a few handy (we like light and clean scents for spring/winter and warm, comforting scents for fall/winter). Keep lighters close by so that you remember to keep them lit - these ones are pretty and rechargeable.
For a more natural scent, light a palo santo stick and let it burn for about 30 seconds, then blow it out leave it in a ceramic tray or trail the scented smoke through your home.
Or, try nestling a few oil diffusers throughout your home. You can use small vases you already have (just add a few diffusing rods - these black ones are extra chic) or pick up a pretty set. This woodsy scent is our absolute favorite and always has guests asking for the link.
